Nextel is currently offering the IC hybrid phones. They do not work in our area. In order for the phone to operate correctly it requires both Sprint and Nextel service be available. In the Sterling/Rock Falls area we have very poor Sprint service. The phone is not a true dual mode phone, all cell calls are processed through the Sprint cellular network and all the Direct Connect calls are processed through the Nextel network. What this means is if you are in an area with no Sprint service but have Nextel service you can not use your phone, the Direct Connect will work but no cellular. If you are in an area with no Nextel coverage but do have Sprint coverage your Direct Connect will not work but the Cellular phone will.
